This is a tumblr repost about Watamote! Keep in mind that this post was made after the fourth episode aired, and I have since finished the show. It was really really good, but it definitely stirred up feelings - which is what this post is about!

There is one reason that I should no longer watch WataMote

It’s far too real. (SPOILERS FOR FIRST THREE EPISODES FOLLOWING)

For those who don’t know, WataMote is short for Watashi ga Motenai no wa dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui, or No Matter How I Look at it it’s Your Guys’ Fault I’m not Popular. It’s an anime that is currently airing every Monday. It’s about a hs freshman girl. She’s an otaku, and one suffering from social anxiety.



Her anxiety is, of course, highly exaggerated for entertainment. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t still trigger a lot of emotions. I’ve talked about the anime with several friends, all of whom agree that they were very emotionally moved from the very first episode. They could relate to the main character, Tomoko, very easily, and in some cases, far TOO easily. The things that this girl goes through in just one episode has happened to a lot of people, more than once.



It was heart-wrenching to watch Tomoko go from thinking her only friend hadn’t changed at all, to realizing that her friend had changed completely and couldn’t relate to Tomoko at all.



It was heart-wrenching to watch Tomoko when they had to split into groups, and Tomoko was that girl in class who nobody wanted to work with.









I’m pretty sure almost everyone can relate to some of the things that Tomoko deals with. This stuff happens to a lot of people. And it stirs up those emotions, however exaggerated the anime may be.









It’s not always fun to cry over an anime, especially when it’s stirring up those feelings of loneliness you deal with. So after four episodes, I’m unsure if I’m going back to it. That doesn’t mean it’s not a good anime. It’s not the best, but it’s creatively animated and fun to watch. Just don’t be surprised if you end up in tears over it.
